The 1778 Revolutionary War "Battle of Monmouth" battlefield is adjacent to the cemetery. Over the years cannon
and musket balls have been found throughout the cemetery. At the top of Oak Hill is the burial place of Lt. Col. Henry Monckton.
He was the highest ranking British officer to be killed in action. Nearby is the spot where General Washington reprimanded
General Lee for retreating which later led to Lee's court-martial.
In the Cemetery are buried members of many of the oldest families of Monmouth County dating back nearly 280 years.
Today we are still a beautiful, functioning cemetery.
